I've been scolded for not blogging in a week, and I promised that I would blog during Sean's nap this afternoon, but when it came down to it, I decided a nap sounded good to me too. So I turned off my phone and snoozed for an hour (as did Daddy). So now that we're all up & situated -- Daddy in his man cave (garage), Sean in the la-la-loom (translated: livingroom), and me on the computer -- I have time to write.
The big event of the week has been that I've had to move offices because I came back to a flood at work. Our building -- the section where my office is located, in particular -- had been having a few minor leak problems for several months now. In the summer/fall, it'd leak in my office every time it rained. The management company would come out and do things to attempt to fix the problem, but the next time it'd rain, I'd get splashed. I eventually hung a white trash bag across my window to deflect the water, and a few weeks ago when we had a little bit of melting, I moved my computer away from the window.
Then came last week.
Apparently, we received about 10-15 inches of snow last week while we were gone. Then higher-than-freezing temperatures during the days would begin melting the snow. And our poor old building just couldn't take all the wetness.
By Monday morning, I was sloshing when I walked into my office. The ceiling tiles were brown and droopy, and the water had gotten onto more of my belongings than it had ever reached before (and my supervisor had done everything she could to move stuff out of the way too!). And it wasn't just regular rain water either: this water had gone through the building somehow so it was a brownish-yellow. The smell was that of must & mold, and I knew I couldn't stay there anymore.
Here's a snapshot of the tarp they hung to prevent any more water from hitting the office stuff (this doesn't stop the water from going behind the tarp and drenching the floor...). You can see the water sitting on my desk where the computer used to be, and on the left (under my "Bang Head Here" sign), you can see a thick film where some splashing had happened. And check out the lovely water-stained blue office panel under the window.
So this week was BUSY! I'd been away from work for five days so I had some catching up to do, and I had to move offices. Thankfully, the facilities management people were on top of it (my supervisor put in an emergency request to move my phone & computer due to the flood), so by Tuesday, those were moved and I just focused on getting caught up on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning. Then I spent Friday afternoon lugging personal belongings to my new, windowless-but-dry digs. And brutally purging files and personal belongings that just didn't need to be taking up space in my office. As of 4:30pm yesterday when I left, it's still a work in progress. I still have to finish putting things away and I need to continue catching up on the work. But when all is said & done, it'll be better! And dry. Dry is the key word here. Dry.
Other than that, the week was pretty much a normal work week. Dan didn't seem to have any fires to put out upon his return, and Sean returned to daycare, happily! Actually, he started asking to see Pat during the weekend last weekend, so when we walked in on Monday morning, he was all too happy to see me leave for work, haha! And when I went to pick him up Monday evening, he... well, he cried! Yep, poor kid missed his friends (and probably his routine as well).
